Wanted: Adelaide to Perth

Hi - can anyone give me some advice please? I am a 32 year old (female) trying to decide the best way to get myself and my car over to Perth. The train is expensive (almost $700) and I would also need to purchase a flight. I am starting from Tasmania so have to pay for myself and my car on the ferry and fuel costs driving Melbourne to Adelaide. I may or may not be able to find someone to share some costs.

My question is - which would be more economical - driving across the Nullarbor (I would camp along the way) or going the train option. Any advice from someone who has made the journey would be much appreciated!!! I would be aiming to leave beginning of December or earlier. THANKYOU. I have a small car - a Mazda 121 Metro 1998 1.3 litre engine
